The Parthenon and the statue of Athena are full-size exact replicas of the originals in Athens, Greece. At almost 42 feet in height, Athena Parthenos is the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western world. The city?s art museum is also located here.

Located on 30 acres just south of Nashville, the Bell Meade Plantation is the site of a historic antebellum mansion. The mansion?s columns still bear bullet scars from the Civil War. The Victorian-style manor home, completed in 1853, is now a museum.

The Tennessee State Capitol building dates back to the Civil War era. Tours are available of this restored building, including the House and Senate Chambers. Located on the grounds are the graves of former Tennessee governor and US President (1845-49) James K. Polk and his wife. The capitol also offers an excellent view of the city.

The thorough Tennessee State Museum traces the complete history of the state, dating back to the original Native American inhabitants, to the first European settlers, to the Civil War and Antebellum period, and ending with contemporary art and artifacts. View more than 200 quilts from 1808 to the present, more than 500 flags and banners and prehistoric artifacts from around the state.

The Upper Room Chapel and Museum

The Upper Room Chapel and Museum is famous for housing Ernest Pellegrino?s basswood and walnut carving of Leonardo de Vinci's "The Last Supper." The carving is 17 feet wide and eight feet high. For the best viewing, stand near the rear of the chapel. A collection of stained glass windows and religious art from around the world are also featured.

The Travelers Rest Plantation is a restored 1799 Federal-style home, originally the home of John Overton, lifelong friend of Andrew Jackson. The home served as Confederate headquarters prior to the 1864 Battle of Nashville. Today the home (which features antiques and unique Tennessee-made furniture) and adjacent gardens are open to visitors.
